In article <3u49jb$9s3@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, joser@sunatxx.gob.pe says... >They say: > Powerbuilder has 46% of the market, > GUPTA is 30% and > Visual Basic 18% > And New Era will fall in the remaining 6% If you're concerned with market share and third party support, Powersoft certainly has a major presence in the client/server market. I was at the Powersoft conference in Orlando last month. They had 5000 attendees. The conference filled the Orlando Dolphin and Swan convention hotels, and overflowed into another Disney hotel. There were 139 booths in the exhibit hall, filled with third-party products supporting or complimenting Powerbuilder. New Era's market share is negligible. New Era message traffic in comp.databases.informix amounts to a few messages a week; comp.soft-sys.powerbuilder has more activity in one day than I've seen about New Era in several months. Market share should, however, not be the only measurement. My personal experience with Powerbuilder is mixed. Obviously, a lot of people are very happy with it - but I personally can't give it an unconditional endorsement; it may be my environment, but the tool suffers from persistant flakiness. Look at some of the GPF threads in comp.soft-sys.powerbuilder. On the other hand, I don't have personal experience that says whether New Era is any more stable. -- William Harris (Standard disclaimers) CARS Information Systems william@carsinfo.com 4000 Executive Park Drive Cincinnati, OH (USA) 45241
