Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user on IDS 11.50.FC6 / Solaris 10 (sun4v, Sun Fire T200) saw "Attempting to free unused operating system segments" in the online log, after which the engine hung and had to be restarted. He asked whether IDS reclaims memory automatically and whether an OS parameter was to blame. Respondents (Dan Mueller, Art Kagel) said that message only appears when someone runs onmode -F, suggesting a forgotten cron job, and recalled an old Solaris problem with running onmode -F frequently that Sun had reportedly fixed; others asked for OS/patch details and whether Enterprise Replication was in use. The poster denied running onmode -F, and no resolution is recorded in the thread.

Hi,
Is there any event when IDS tries to (automatically) release / reclaim
allocated memory?
We faced an issue where IDS tried to release memory but the DB Engine get
stuck, and we re-started the instance.
Is there any particular OS parameter that might have effected it.
We are using 11.50.FC6 on Sun Solaris.
Thanks.
in addition, i am posting the following message (in online log file):
Attempting to free unused operating system segments. This
operation may take several minutes.
Thanks.

Hi.
Could you post your architecture and Solaris version?
That could indicate some trouble (os patch needed), for example.
Best regards.

That only happens if someone runs onmode -F. What version of Solaris are
you running? There used to be a problem with running that onmode frequently
on Solaris, but I thought it wad resolved by Sun long ago.

Someone did. Maybe an old cron job you forgot you have.
