Another $.02 coming right up ... Cathy Kipp <ckipp@vth1.vth.colostate.edu> writes: > Always. I assume THE SOLUTIONS GUIDE is > similar. These should all be available FREE through Informix sales. They're the same (yes, free) catalogs! For Informix's most recent 1994-1995 catalogs, they have simply renamed them both as Solutions Guides. Last year, they were known by different names: 1993-1994 Independent Vendor Catalog (thick copy, B/W cover) | +---> 1994-1995 Informix Solutions Guide: Application Software and Services using Informix Products 1993-1994 InSync Marketing Partners Catalog (thin copy, colored cover) | +---> 1994-1995 InSync Solutions Guide: Informix Compatible Tools Cathy Kipp <ckipp@vth1.vth.colostate.edu> writes further: > I believe there are hundreds of companies selling Informix products > and this would probably tend to make the list a bit unwieldy. The > Informix catalogs are at least somewhat organized by type of product. Yes, our FAQ __could__ simply refer people to their local Informix Sales Office to get a catalog. On the other hand, why suggest the manual labor of chasing down a catalog when a few electronic keystrokes to a vendor FAQ (at ANY hour of ANY day) could instantaneously produce the same end result? I'm not suggesting that some poor slob sit down and type in both catalogs (geez, what a cruel thought). The vendor FAQ would, most likely, start out with entries from companies who read this newsgroup. It would slowly grow into a comprehensive source of "fingertip" product information; an electronic means of supporting people who need help finding certain types of products. Windstar is an old-timer catalog vendor and I know that I could produce an effective, one-line description for each of our products. This type of electronic information would certainly reduce the "I'm looking for a widget" questions in this newsgroup. Besides, isn't the purpose of this newsgroup and a FAQ to provide a means for the global, electronic dissemination of Informix-based knowledge? When someone is looking for a "widget", they should be able to find out (fast) where they can get one. /----------------------------------------------------------------------------\\ | Judy Domshy || | | Windstar Corporation || "Life is like riding a bicycle. | | Phone : 1 905 479 6621 || You don't fall off unless you | | Fax : 1 905 479 6086 || stop pedaling."
