I don't what it could be, but one possibillity would be the use of host equivalence for authentithication (sorry I'm not sure it can be done in Intersolv ODBC + SetNet). Check - may be you have a '.rhosts' file in your root home directory. In any case you could try giving additional information like the error message and the Unix (what Unix do you use) + Informix versions.
