At the same time I'm thinking of : potential uses for buffered logging. The only thing that really comes to : mind is static info. like a DSS database. So my question are: : 1) how many folks are actually using buffered logging? All my systems use it, no idea about others. : 2) has anyone experienced loss of data? I've never had *significant* data loss...worse would be one or two transactions but this was with relatively small buffers. : 3) can you actually force the buffers to disk via a "checkpoint"? yep. It gets more interesting when you have a combination of buffered and unbuffered databases in the same instance. Every time the unbuffered database flushes to disk, it carries along the unbuffered one also. You may have 10 buffered databases and one busy unbuffered one and you'll have almost the same effect as all unbuffered databases because the unbuffered one flushes them all. : Secondly, (you've probably seen this before) does anyone have a : comparison of INFORMIX vs. SYBASE - feature for feature? I've seen a matrix, but it's pretty old....Version 5.x I believe. If you want it, email me and I'll try to dig it up.
