I would like to have the logs go to disk rather than a tape drive. Is this possible? How?

It is possible. There are several methods depending:
If you use onbar for archiving look at making "$INFORMIXDIR/etc/log_full.sh", or
something patterned on it, your
ALARMPROGRAM script. It backs up each log to disk as it fills. It is not
as robust as it could be but a decent shell programmer can fix that.
If you use ontape get my package, utils3_ak, which contains a version of
log_full.sh that uses ontape -a to accomplish the same thing. It also
contains my executable ALARMPROGRAM, eventalarm.c, which also uses ontape
-a to archive each logical log as it fills and is more robust. It renames
and optionally compresses the output file and recreates the empty LTAPEDEV
file. Eventalarm.c also handles most interesting events by emailing a
list of DBAs.
The package is in the IIUG Software Repository.

This could be different of different platforms (NT or UNIX). Regards, Serge.
