Re: Is IBM actually doing something with IDS?
Posted in 2007
Not a technical problem at all — this is a flame-war segment of a thread asking whether IBM is still investing in IDS. An Oracle advocate posts dice.com job-posting counts (hundreds of Oracle jobs vs. a handful of Informix jobs in Seattle, Denver and Boston) as proof of Oracle's dominance; Informix users retort that fewer DBAs are needed because IDS requires less administration, accuse him of trolling/shilling in an Informix group, and raise offshoring to India. No technical question is posed and no resolution is reached.

It's a sad day for Oracle when the best benchmark numbers they can come up with are job postings to fill all the job vacancies. j. -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org]On Behalf Of DA Morgan Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2007 8:50 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Is IBM actually doing something with IDS? Silly twit. All that proves is that an IDS DBA can do 10x the work of an Oracle DBA. Either that means that they are smarter than Oracle DBAs or that Oracle requires 10x the work to keep things running on an even keel. Well ok, trick answer. An Informix IDS DBA is always smarter than an Oracle DBA. After all he/she chose a better database to begin with. ;-) >From: DA Morgan <damorgan@psoug.org> >To: informix-list@iiug.org >Subject: Re: Is IBM actually doing something with IDS? >Date: Thu, 31 May 2007 17:49:51 -0700 >MIME-Version: 1.0 >Received: from perform.iiug.org ([216.177.38.211]) by >bay0-mc12-f11.bay0.hotmail.com with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.2668); Thu, >31 May 2007 17:50:27 -0700 >Received: from localhost (localhost [127.0.0.1])by perform.iiug.org >(Postfix) with ESMTP id 6FA2FA0AA;Thu, 31 May 2007 20:50:24 -0400 (EDT) >Received: from perform.iiug.org ([127.0.0.1])by localhost (perform.iiug.org >[127.0.0.1]) (amavisd-new, port 10024)with ESMTP id utuVFpMl27lH; Thu, 31 >May 2007 20:50:08 -0400 (EDT) >Received: by perform.iiug.org (Postfix, from userid 60001)id CED6C9EC4; >Thu, 31 May 2007 20:50:08 -0400 (EDT) >Received: from perform.iiug.org (localhost [127.0.0.1])by perform.iiug.org >(Postfix) with ESMTP id 85AC99E98;Thu, 31 May 2007 20:50:03 -0400 (EDT) >X-Message-Info: >LsUYwwHHNt0PUzmXMq6KK7PieKHJ5tgiQfknhHOYSvc0diu1jsxYThTqTlAlxxRt >X-Virus-Scanned: amavisd-new at iiug.org >Path: >nnrp.xmission!xmission!ucberkeley!news-hog.berkeley.edu!news.glorb.com!border1.nntp.dca.giganews.com!nntp.giganews.com!nx02.iad01.newshosting.com!newshosting.com!post01.iad01!not-for-mail >Organization: Puget Sound Oracle Users Group >User-Agent: Thunderbird 1.5.0.12 (Windows/20070509) >Newsgroups: comp.databases.informix >References: ><mailman.24.1180426800.13675.informix-list@iiug.org> <98_6i.12273$Tn.24@fe48.usenetserver.com> <mailman.33.1180464146.13675.informix-list@iiug.org> <2W07i.8776$Aj.8252@fe170.usenetserver.com> <1180544003.292441.27290@g4g2000hsf.googlegroups.com> <Sdi7i.31528$ys.7999@fe42.usenetserver.com> <mailman.56.1180554155.13675.informix-list@iiug.org> <epm7i.10551$Gj.5866@fe180.usenetserver.com> <mailman.64.1180611461.13675.informix-list@iiug.org> <UtD7i.27913$gw.15970@fe52.usenetserver.com><mailman.65.1180632977.13675.informix-list@iiug.org><1180636329.286698@bubbleator.drizzle.com><465f54bd$0$22334$88260bb3@free.teranews.com> >Cache-Post-Path: bubbleator.drizzle.com!unknown@216.162.218.178 >X-Cache: nntpcache 3.0.1 (see http://www.nntpcache.org/) >Lines: 38 >X-Complaints-To: abuse@csolutions.net >Xref: nnrp.xmission comp.databases.informix:197209 >X-BeenThere: informix-list@iiug.org >X-Mailman-Version: 2.1.6 >Precedence: list >List-Id: "comp.databases.informix" <informix-list.iiug.org> >List-Unsubscribe: ><http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list>,<mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=unsubscribe> >List-Archive: <http://www.iiug.org/pipermail/informix-list> >List-Post: <mailto:informix-list@iiug.org> >List-Help: <mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=help> >List-Subscribe: ><http://www.iiug.org/mailman/listinfo/informix-list>,<mailto:informix-list-request@iiug.org?subject=subscribe> >Errors-To: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org >Return-Path: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org >X-OriginalArrivalTime: 01 Jun 2007 00:50:41.0494 (UTC) >FILETIME=[E0EF6760:01C7A3E6] > >Data Cruncher wrote: > > "DA Morgan" <damorgan@psoug.org> wrote in message > > news:1180636329.286698@bubbleator.drizzle.com... > >> At dice.com one provides 30+% of available employment for RDBMS > >> professionals the other 0.66%. > >> > >> The numbers speak louder than any schoolyard insult. > > > > There is another number you have forgotten. Then pray tell, why do you frequent this group - which has nothing to do with Oracle - and do nothing but shill for them? In the many years that I have seen you post on this group, you have yet to contribute something of a useful nature to the members of this group. All you do is troll Oracle. If you're not being paid for it, then I have to ask - Do you have a life? I mean really, to prostitute yourself out for a company that isn't even paying you for it... I was under the impression that you would rather be on your boat - obviously it must have sunk or something - because you seem to spend every spare minute you have here, trying to foment jihad. Do we need to call DHS? j. -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org]On Behalf Of DA Morgan Sent: Thursday, May 31, 2007 9:50 PM To: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: Is IBM actually doing something with IDS? You can also rest assured that "your" employers are looking at the cost savings they can make if they ship "your" department out to India.
