We had to back off from version 7.12 for two reasons, the
first which we fixed, the second which we haven't been able
to overcome. The cdrom runtime and development version 7.12uc1
contain a bug in the install process which caused programs using
shared libraries to fail. The fix was to 'brand' libgen.sl manually.
"How did that get by QA?" one might ask, not testing the simple stuff
like a compile, perhaps? The second involved repeated -242/-113 errors on spx
connections when we try to drop a temp table. We also encountered
phantom/orphaned sessions. Informix, as usual, it seems, when the problem
isn't straight forward is of little help. Their tech support is hampered by
too few tools, if any, to allow them to trace or even dump their system (for
crying out loud) on hp's. I have also been severely disappointed
and repeatedly burned by their apparently inept quality assurance (i.e
7.10UD1, 7.12UC1, bad fixes to name a few).
The bight spot, at least, is after much pain we are currently running
version 7.11UC2 and that seems more stable - much to everyone's relief.
Because we had to back off there is very little likelihood that this problem
will be resolved because they can't capture it on our system or recreate it
on theirs. Jeez.
