The proper answer to your short question is "It depends." However, I'll make a few assumptions and try to help you out. If the stored procedure (SP) runs fast then I would not mess with adding update stats to the SP. It's likely that the update statistics statements might just make the SP run longer due to the amount of time it takes to execute the update statistics statements. If the SP runs slow now, which I'll assume it does, then it would probably help to run update statistics on the temporary table after the data is loaded and indexes have been built. If you are not using indexes on the temp table then at least run update statistics low on the temp table. Just two notes: 1- The answer would be the same as for the same situation outside SPL. In other words, if you need them it's not because it's withing SPL 2- My be interesting to consider which version.
