Yes -- Re: Anyone had experience using Patrol with Informix?

BMC Patrol provides a decent "infrastructure" or framework for building custom application management systems. BMC will claim that in addition to this, they sell turn-key or "out of the box" (my words, not theirs, but their marketing certainly implies this), monitoring for certain major applications, such as Sybase, Informix, Unix, NT, Notes, etc.. It is difficult for one company to be good at all this, and it has been my experience that though the Patrol framework is still worthwhile, the KM (Knowledge Module) for Informix (and perhaps others) is not worth the money. It is reasonably easy to build your own custom KM to monitor the parts of Informix you are most interested in without introducing the baggage that BMC's Informix KM includes (including difficult upgrades, bugs which can affect Informix performance, etc.). ...Terry. -----Original Message----- From: CONWAY Graham <Graham.CONWAY@oami.eu.int> To: informix-list@iiug.org <informix-list@iiug.org> Date: Thursday, May 07, 1998 12:55 Subject: Anyone had experience using Patrol with Informix? > >Hi, > >I was wondering if anyone has had experience using Patrol with Informix, >and if so, what they think of it? > >Is it worth the money? >Does it do for you what you were hoping for? >Are there other tools that are better? > >Thanks, > >Graham Conway > >Informix DBA >European Trade Mark Office >Alicante, Spain >
