Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
A user evaluating Informix ISPY asked why captured SQL showed only question marks instead of the actual host-variable values (no better than onstat -g sql), and whether any reporting tools exist beyond querying the ispy database directly. Initial replies said ISPY merely logs data and the user was probably doing something wrong. Later, another poster pointed to the ISPY 2.0 manual: there's an ISCONFIG option to retain actual values plus a utility to populate the activity table with them, and standard reports run via ISA. It was also noted the eval isn't on Intraware — you request FTP access from your Informix account manager. No confirmation that this solved the original poster's problem.

I've used this product before, but have now downloaded on eval to enlist its
help in tracking down a specific problem. A couple of questions:
1. I seem to recall in the past that it provided the actual values used
in a query, rather than just the question marks that indicate a prepared
statement, and which I could in any case have got from onstat -g sql.
2. I've looked through the online manual and haven't really found
anything that suggests what you might do with the collected data. Is the
only option to SQL query the ispy database, or are there some clever
reporting tools that have somehow been skipped on my answers CD.
thanks
Neil
BTW, called Informix UK yesterday and was answered "Informix and Ascential
Software"! Quite a mouthful for the poor receptionist. Still, some
tortoise-shell-rimmed-bespectacled-and-pony-tailed genius in marketing
parobably got a bonus for dreaming that up - the first one since "way to
web" I should think!

Yes. Also costs and stuff like that.

Well, that's up to you. It just logs the data, that's all.

Indeed. Arsential. Couldn't dream up anything better than that myself.
Arse-about-facial has an interesting, er, ring to to it, don't you think? :-)

Well, I just had a little play with it yesterday (fnarr! fnarr!), and all I
saw of the relevant transactions *did* just have question-marks where I
wanted to see the actual values. Perhaps I was doing something wrong.
We'll probably have to get an Informix consultant in to help. Wonder who
it'll be? Some useless bugger who's not out elsewhere on fees as usual I
expect.

Probably. :->

Very, very likely indeed. :-))))

Where might one download the eval. It does not seem to be on the
Informix eval site which Intraware pointed me to.

Sod off! You haven't answered my question so I'm not telling you!
Actually, you can;t get it from intraware. Just tell your Informix account
manager that you want to download and evaluate it, and they'll open up a
connection to their ftp site for you.

There is actually an ISPY 2.0 manual that explains everything reasonably
well.
I am at home and don't have it handy, I also can't remember now where I
found the manual.
It wasn't easy.
The standard reports are based off of using ISA. There is an option in
the ISCONFIG file
for keeping the actual values. There is also a utility to populate the
activity
table with the values.
