Malc - I would be very interested in the final results obviously but also any detailed description of the steps you may have to take to get this to work. I don't have the same environment but I think this will speak volumes to the much touted (sp?) ability to go from 4GL to EGL. Thanks in advance. This is why we opted to go with 4Js Genero... between 3-4 hours to process 300,000 lines of code for GUI use. Most of the time was spent with our custom C functions. We found that EGL is not 4GL... it's a one way conversion and it's painful. With Genero, it's simply a recompile with 4Js compiler. We continue to maintain our 4GL like we always have and use "fgl2p" instead of "c4gl" to compile. Hi, As one of the official beta-testers of EGL we have done some early testing. We will also test the beta-version of the migration tool. With this experience (4GL, EGL and 4j's) I have the following opinions: 1. EGL is now just another programming language (it is not 4GL compatible) 2. There will be a 4GL to EGL migration tool later this year. Indeed this migration is one way. 3. EGL is based on Jave, just as 4GL is based on C. 4. One way migration is good (if it worls well). This is the only way to really adapt new technologies. What I've seen so far is great. The only bad thing is the plan to initially only support text user interface in the migration tool and not the web based interface. I hope they will correct this and EGL can become a well-spread industry leading language. (EGL is alos used as follow up for some other IBM languages). THis is just my opinion !!!
