1. Thank you for posting in both English and French. I apologize in
advance that I cannot do the same.
2. First, we'll address the server side and allow TCP/IP connectivity to
the database
a. As root, edit your /etc/services file to add an entry for
Informix connectivity
e.g. infx_conn 7200/tcp
b. As informix, edit your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts file
add a line that has
1. a new unique server name for your TCP/IP
connection to the
database server (e.g. servername_tcp)
2. the protocol by which the connection will be
achieved
(for linux: onsoctcp)
3. the hostname of the system on which the database
server resides
(e.g. myhost)
4. the name for the services entry you made in (a)
The line should be something like:
servername_tcp onsoctcp myhost infx_conn
c. Modify your $INFORMIXDIR/etc/$ONCONFIG, specifically theDBSERVERALIASES line. Ensure that the server name you specified above (servername_tcp)
is on the line.
d. Bounce your engine (onmode -yuck followed by oninit)
e. Test your tcp/ip connectivity to your database
1. dbaccess
2. Connection / Connect
3. Select your tcp/ip connection (e.g. servername_tcp)
4. Press <ENTER> for username
5. Select your database
>> At this point you should be able to access all
your tables
3. Now, we'll address your client.
a. Log on to intraware.com and download the Informix Client SDK.
This package
is free and has all the software necessary for the connection.
Install it
as administrator.
b. Edit your c:\\winnt\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\services file
Add an entry identitcal to the one in 2.a.
c. Edit your c:\\winnt\\system32\\drivers\\etc\\hosts file
Add an entry for your host system
d. Use the "setnet32" utility
(start/programs/informix/setnet/Informix setnet32
to define the client connection.
- On the ENVIRONMENT tab, ensure that INFORMIXDIR is set to
the directory
to which you installed the Client SDK, and set the
INFORMIXSERVER to the
DBSERVERALIAS you set in 2.c <<Don't forget to click the
SET button>>
- On the SERVER INFORMATION tab, enter all information for
your server
- On the HOST INFORMATION tab, enter all information about
your host machine
e. You are now ready for the test of Informix connectivity.
Use the ILOGIN demo to test connectivity. Click FILE/RUN
and fill in the form.
4. Finally, we set up an ODBC data source
a. Open your ODBC configuration utility from Control Panel
b. Click ADD
c. Select the Intersolv 3.111 32-Bit Informix 9 driver
d. Fill in the appropriate information on the General tab
e. Fill in the Connection tab.
The SERVICE NAME is the entry from 3.b.
The SERVER NAME is the database server alias from 3.d
The PROTOCOL TYPE should be onsoctcp
Once these are done, you shold be good to go.
Best of luck.
