Re: Informix 7.2 vs. 8.0

Informix 8.x is used as a "datawarehouse" type of engine. This means that this engine is designed for processing "queries" on "MPP" and "SMP clustered" architectures. This engine is called XPS (eXtended Parallel Server). The architecture is "shared nothing". 7.x is used as a "general purpose" engine serving both query and OLTP type of application. It is designed to run on SMP and single cpu systems. However the performance is better on SMP platforms with 4 cpu's. This engine is called ODS (Online Dynamic Server). The architecture is "shared everything". <<<Saeed>>> In <509otf$30t@newsbf02.news.aol.com> pairoshoes@aol.com (PairOShoes) writes: > >Having been away from Informix for a while, could someone please enlighten >me >on the differences between 7.2 and 8.0?
