My question is what would be the preferred environment. Depends on your prior experience. I would use Unix, but Informix works very well on NT as well. >My other question is would Informix databases be compatible to either MS >Access or BRIO? Both MS Access and Brio works well with any Informix database. We have also used Impromptu from Cognos with great success. Easy to use for end users when set up properly. Use the OpenLink ODBC drivers and you can set up read only on the server so you make sure noone uses MS Access to change any data. >What I'm trying to do is create a database for generating reports only. But how do you load the data and how much data is it and how is it organized. For reports only I would use a start schema, but it does put some requirements on the tools you use to access it. You might want to take a look at MetaCube from Informix if you have significant requirements. It's a first class tools for many types of queries.
