Page size difference

Hi, I have a small doubt : In Hp-UX 10 the page size of the physical memory is 4KB. But in Informix, page size is 2KB(derived from the Buffer size). Is there any relationship with this memory page size and informix buffer size? Will there be any performance hindrance in this page size difference? Is that parameter page size tunable Radhika.S

If you make the number of buffers even then you will always be using a full number of memory pages anyway but there should be no performance problems. Almost all UNIX's use a 4K memory page size and except for AIX, which apparently cannot seem to read only 2K from disk efficiently, all Informix platforms use 2K buffer/disk page size. This is not configurable. There used to be, in 4.xx and 5.xx, a BUFFSIZE parameter which was always set to 2K, except on the one or two platforms that supported 4K page size (only Amdahl at the time), but Informix would warn anyone inquiring about setting it to another value away from doing so on the code was not guaranteed to depend on that value everywhere and that strange things might happen if one changed it. The parameter no longer exists. Art S. Kagel
