Re: SQL Server CE to other databases

Ouch...
I didn't see that you mention SQL Server 2000 CE...
I've done it with SQL-Server 97 and 2000 (The servers) and with the OLE
DB provider for odbc. It should be with the Informix OLE-DB provider but
I can't make it work.
If I suppose 2000-CE is similar to 2000-Server they are similar then the
following may help you:
1. Check you have or install Informix Connect or CDSK on the machine you
hace Sql-Server.
2. Create an odbc system data sourtce to your Informix database and test
it connect sucsessfully.
3. In Sql-Server in security add a new linked server:
* the provider is OLE-DB provider for ODBC
* choose a name for the linked server ie: IFX_LNKD_SER
* Specify the name of the data source you created in step 2
* And specify the connect string for ODBC.
I don't remember the connection string but DBping helps you here.
(If you have IDS-10 sorry CDSK 2.9 doesn't have Dbping)
* And accept it.
If all goes well you can see the lists of tables when you clik on the
new created linked server.
More or less there is the same procedure to other data sources, in books
online it states that you can link this way to oracle.
Finally you can use openquery to access remote tables, for example
select *
from sql_server_table a
inner join
openquery( IFX_LNKD_SER, 'select * from informix_table' ) as b
on (a.pk = b.pk)go
Cool isn't it?
