Informix 4.x to 7.x conversion

I have just done this on SCO 5.0.0 from SE 4.00 to 7.10.
Look out for mode ANSI databases: owner names were in lower case in 4.0
and are now upper case. Unix uses lower case and the two fight. I
abandoned mode ANSI.
There's a documented cursor name problem but I didn't encounter it. If
you have lots of fancy ESQL/C code you may.
If you want to implement referential integrity your table loads become
order dependent. Use dbschema on 4.0, edit it and create 7.1. Then run
dbschema to get the 7.1 schema out in the right order. An awk script can
make the dbload file from the 7.1 dbschema file. The new object modes in
7.1 are a godsend for data cleaning.
Version 7.1 is a LOT slower on optimising complex queries on small
databases. You need to use the SET OPTIMIZATION LOW command to make it
take the quick route. This is not available from the ISQL products Ace
and Perform so these may run more slowly.
If you run over the network, make sure you have the latest SCO network
patches.
Good luck!
