Hi Informix Gurus, I posted a simple question to oracle newsgroup but that place is very silent. May be you can help me . Here is my question about oracle: Hi Gurus, i am new with oracle. I am sorry if the question is very simple. The mechanism uses a rollback segment (or undo) concept , which stores before-images , and redo log concept which stores transaction information. Am i right? Guessing that i am right , my question comes: Does an insert statement needs rollback segment? I dont think so because insert statement does not change a block , but creates a new one so there is no before image record. If so , what is the before image of an insert statement? Kind Regards, hope

Why should an insert create a new block when a block can have tens of rows? Regards.
The Oracle newsgroups as a whole generally have more traffic than the one Informix newsgroup. If "the" Oracle newsgroup you posted to is in fact quiet, then I'm guessing one of two situations is the case: 1) You posted to comp.databases.oracle. That is an obsolete newsgroup. I don't know why it's still around, other than perhaps Usenet architecture requires it. That group was split some time ago into comp.databases.oracle.X, where X is (at least) marketplace, misc, server and tools. If you did post to c.d.o, try posting to comp.databases.oracle.server. 2) You in fact posted to one of the subgroups under comp.databases.oracle, and there's a problem with news flow there. Contact your news admin or ISP. Good luck, Walt.
