Install IDS 9.4 on Suse Linux 8.1
Posted in 2004
I have recently been trying to install 9.40 on SUSE Linux 8.1 and have seen some strange effects. Firstly I observed that I could not install a demo-server due to problems witth GLIBC_2.2 not found errors. I looked through CDI and found that I needed to download a file ending in glibc-2.2.5-165.i686.rpm and installing this. It didn't solve the problem. I then noticed that the link from var/lib/libpthread.so was to my old installation directory and not to my new one. I noticed that the new install did not have any similar files in the lib directory. In the end I renamed the library file pointed to by var/lib/libpthread.so and found that the syetm worked perfectly acceptably. Are these problems caused by:- a - my version of Linux b - the fact that I haven't installed over a previous release c - the version of IDS that I am trying to install d - finger problems e - none of the above This is my first encounter with LINUX and I am not amused so far. I have also observed that onmonitor has strange effects when using the ESCAPE key. I can only make onmonitor respond by using ESC-TAB sequence. The effect is similar to the effect that ISQL and I4GL had on Linux with early versions. I guess onmonitor was compiled using old code. regards Puzzled of Burnham, UK sending to informix-list
