Please help with ESQL/C connectivity!

Configuration: ESQL/C 6.0 client installed on SPARC Solaris 2.4,
trying to talk to Informix On-line Dynamic Server 6.0 installed on an
IBM RS/6000 box. I have the following entry in the sqlhosts file on
the client and the server:
INFORM60 onsoctcp pulsar inform60
("pulsar" is the name of the RS/6000 box)
I have the following entry in the /etc/services file on the client and
the server:
inform60 3805/tcp
On the client, I have the INFORMIXDIR environment variable set, as
also the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable (set to INFORM60).
Upon running the demo1 program, I get the following error upon
attempting to connect to the database:
25597, You specified an unknown name or protocol.
I have rechecked my setup a number of times, and have spent a
frustrating time with Informix Support. They basically haven't been
able to provide me with any new information, and don't know what I am
doing wrong. I would be very grateful if I can get any
input/suggestions/advice about what I should do/check. By the way,
Windows 3.x and Windows NT ESQL/C clients can connect without any
problems.
Thanks in advance.
