IDS 2000.
Hi everybody! I am trying to do some research on IDS 2000. We are planning to upgrade our IDS 7.21 to IDS 2000 some where in Q1 of next year. My environment is Sun 5.5.1 on Spark and we have a huge (and I mean it) C++/ESQL two tier application running on SUN workstations. Is anybody using IDS 2000 in similar kind of environment? How buggy the current release of 2000 is and pretty much do you like the experience? Any information you can provide would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Vlad.

Sorry, but I am wondering the same. We are planning to upgrade I-Online 5.05 to IDS-next version. Shoud we go to IDS 7.3x or directly to IDS-2000 ? There are a few points to consider that may direct your decision: o Do you need OO constructs and/or UDTs or UDFs? Then you have to go with IDS.2000. o Do you need long identifiers (and are willing to live with not being able to use them in 4GL or ISQL)? Then IDS.2000. o Do you need the ANSI-92 syntax extensions or other new features in IDS 7.31? IDS.2000 was based on UDO 9.14 and IDS 7.30 and so does not have any 7.31 specific features. In this case you must go with 7.31 and wait for IDS.2000 9.21 or whatever version ultimately incorporates the 7.31 extensions and features. o Don't care about any of the above particularly but they would be nice to have? Stick with IDS 7.31 until a few maintenance releases of IDS.2000 have passed by and there are more user reports. Meanwhile I'd get IDS.2000 anyway, I know we will, and play with it on a test machine to see what features you could use and how it performs and how buggy it is or is not. Art S.
