NewEra, Passport, Other products
Posted in 1994
Hi All! Last month at the Colorado Informix User Group meeting, several of us saw a product we were very impressed with called Passport. One of our members put out a question on the 'net asking if anyone is actually using this product and what they thought of it. No responses from actual users, so I would like to ask again. Many of us who saw this product have also seen demos of NewEra. While I like the idea of sticking with all Informix products, Passport has some important features that NewEra has yet to come up with. Passport works as a GUI or in character mode on Unix or in Windows. Like NewEra it works as either a server only product or as client/server product, and with support for many different databases. It also can work with existing 4GL code. Has anyone used both NewEra and Passport and can recommend one over the other - or neither? Does anyone feel other products are head and shoulders above both of these? Has anyone heard recently what Informix plans for NewEra are concerning Unix support in both Motif and character? Any other developments? If anyone is using Passport, we really would like to hear from you! Thanks!
