Informix Dynamic Server 7.31UD2R1 On HP-UX 11.0 Yesterday we faced a problem in which one of the table which uses the blob space start giving error codes 603 and 605. so we added space to blobdbspace and that took care of the problem. But thats not a problem. What was weird in all this is the blobspace at the time of problem was showing 150,000 pages free but still the application was not able to insert into the table. I don't simply understand why this happened. All the logical logs being regularly backed up in the system. We even tried to switch the log just to see if those pages can be made available. Just thought of bringing it in you guys notice and have a discussion why it happened. Thanks and regards, Vineet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! We can't use the freed blobspace page until the next log backup is done. But the log backup is being taken continuously so I don't think its the problem of log not being backed up but something else. I am attaching an output from onmonitor-status-spaces for your review which say how many pages are being used in the chunks assigned to blobdbspace. CHUNKS FOR auditblobdbs02 ChunkId Pages Pages in Chunk Used 1) 151 1048568 1048568 2) 152 1048568 1048568 3) 6 1048568 749770 4) 166 1048568 13394 5) 167 1048568 2078 We added chunk 4 and 5 yesterday and it clearly shows that we were having 150,000 blob pages available in chunk 3 yesterday when the problem occurred but informix was not able to use those pages. The chunk 1 and 2 are used to its full capacity but chunk 3 not, donno why this happened. BLOBspace has total of 2621420 BLOB pages, 1190268 of which are free --- Madison Pruet <mpruet@us.ibm.com> wrote: > > > > > We can't use the freed blobspace page until the next > log backup is done. > > > > > > "Vineet Mehr...." > > > <vin_us@yahoo.com To: > ids@iiug.org > > > cc: > > > Sent by: > Subject: Problem with Blobs [1330] > > forum.subscriber@ > > > iiug.org > > > > > > > > > 06/11/2003 11:02 > > > AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > Informix Dynamic Server 7.31UD2R1 > On HP-UX 11.0 > > Yesterday we faced a problem in which one of the > table > which uses the blob space start giving error codes > 603 > and 605. so we added space to blobdbspace and that > took care of the problem. > > But thats not a problem. I had the same problem a couple of years back.. 7.31U??? Basically when you delete blobs, the space is not reclaimed. Check bug # 146770 As a result of the code fix for bug 127941, if a blob is deleted and the blob map page that tracks that blob is checked on a new insert the blobmap page will be marked as full in the blob bitmap page if we have not moved to the next logical log yet. In the case where all the blobs tracked by a particular blobmap page are deleted and it gets marked as used, we orphan the space tracked by that page. We upgraded, moved the data to a new blobspace and had informix drop the old blobspace .. Informix did it since the server thought there was still data in it. Good luck, Patrick McDonough Vineet Mehr.... wrote: >Informix Dynamic Server 7.31UD2R1 >On HP-UX 11.0 > >Yesterday we faced a problem in which one of the table >which uses the blob space start giving error codes 603 >and 605. so we added space to blobdbspace and that >took care of the problem. > >But thats not a problem.
