For those who don't recall, Jerry was the President of the IIUG before Stuart (ie about 100 years ago!). Jerry too used to be very positive about IBM and Informix until the scales fell from his eyes, and it finally dawned on him that the product isn't ever going to be marketed outside the existing customer base, after which he became highly critical. No zeal matches the zeal of the recent convert ...

Compared to Middlesex it's fucking gorgeous! :o) -- Cheers, Obnoxio The Clown http://obotheclown.blogspot.com -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by OpenProtect(http://www.openprotect.com), and is believed to be clean.

No zeal matches the zeal of the recent convert ... Actually I've not converted to the "dark side" and have some hope for Jerry too :-). I'm still waiting for IBM (marketing) to swing their IDS light saber, showing it with proud outside the existing Informix world and proof me that I'm wrong. But I can't deny that the dark side of the force is getting stronger with every additional wasted year of lost opportunities and lame excuses. And no, I do not critize the Informix people inside IBM nor the IIUG. They certainly to their very best with a lot of personal commitment to make IBM IM look good quarter after quarter. I critize IBM's inability to look beyond one's own nose and see what could be done with an excellent product like IDS. Instead of wasting the earned IDS money in a meaningless "Smarter Planet" campaign, a directed and clever advertising of an IBM IM key product like IDS would bring a real benefit to IBM Informix partners, Informix ISV'S and Informix customers as well as IBM itself. The same is probably true for other IBM IM key products.

Imagine putting up with this in every trade magazine you read, then, and imagining how much good do with the money wasted on this puerile, patronising, parochial shit ... http://www.gilchristner.com/ibm06.htm
