INFORMIX USERS CONFERENCE -- Corrections

INFORMIX WORLDWIDE USER CONFERENCE Update on Trip report. In a recent posting I stated: >The next release of INFORMIX On-LINE, Version 6, is to be announced >soon. Two phase commit, stored procedures, more online transaction >speed and power, and other features are included which Mr. Sippl >claimed will make it obvious that INFORMIX engines running on UNIX >are not just capable of doing enterprise-wide on-line transactions, but >are the "best" approach. All the features I mentioned above actually are currently available in Version 5.0, which has been on the market since the end of 1991. The most important features of Version 6.0 include - Multi-threaded architecture (which will be especially valuable on parallel processing systems) - Enhanced Administration and Support Features: o Hot-site backup (replication) o tape management enhancements o table level backup/recovery o optimizer histograms o etc. >The exhibit hall was packed with scores of vendors showing hardware I should have mentioned HP and Digital since PacBell is using their gear these days. >HyperTools was also being demonstrated in beta. This is a set of powerful >programming tools (including a source level debugger) for the WINGZ programming >language, Hyperscript. It includes "painting" tools which allow programmers >to merely draw, drag, click and point their way to completely functional >controls like buttons, dialog boxes, menus, check lists, etc. -- without >coding. The system generates source code automatically. SQL logic is >embedded in HyperTools and developers will not have to use ESQL/C or >Datalink to access data from SQL via WINGZ, if they use HyperTools. I've been told that INFORMIX has not yet decided on an offical name for what I have called "HyperTools". Stay tuned for the actual name in a product announcement later this year. I should be receiving a complete product announcement list soon from INFORMIX. If anyone wants a copy let me know. -- Steve Price UNIX: pacbell!pbhyf!rsprice PHONE: (510)823-1951 "'Nothing will come from nothing' without information" -- Shakespeare & Bateson
