USER in stored procedures.

Hello, Informixers! If I create procedure which 'RETURN USER' and my logname length is long (for example, 8 chars: airdbadm) I should receive correct result every time procedure will running. If this procedure executed by another user, only first six chars are returned (user - airdbuser, return - airdbu). This is my question: WHY?!?
