Hello, starting IDS on linux creates a directory /INFORMIXTMP. I would like to have this directory not directly under root (/). How can I change this? Btw. what is it used for? Thanks Achim
Look for the thread I recently started on this subject. Bottom line: o it *must* be under root o you can use a symbolic link and put it someplace else, Informix says they will support this o it *must* be available - therefore do not put it (a) on a file system that can be unmounted or (b) use permissions that allow others to write o it serves various purposes for Informix, and I think it varies a little by operating system. For example, if POSIX 4 IPC is used, I bet that the pathnames associated with shared memory and semaphores are maintained under /INFORMIXTMP. The name "INFORMIXTMP" is unfortunate. I am a DBA, and my system administrator thought it was a temporary directory and removed it. I couldn't bring up an instance after that.
