Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Benji Long asked where best to set Informix environment variables for the informix user. Fernando Nunes said people typically write an environment script and call it from .bash_profile or .profile. Andrew Ford put a script in /etc/profile.d on Linux so all users get the variables, or use per-user profiles for specific users. Benji accepted the advice.

Hi, where is the best place to launch a script to set the environment
variables? Should they be set in the bash_profile so when the informix user
opens a shell, they get set right there or somewhere else?
Typically people create scripts to configure the whole Informix environment
and for convenience these scripts are called from the bash_proifle or
.profile etc.

In my Linux environment, I want all users to have the Informix environment
variables so I put a profile script in /etc/profile.d that is sourced in for
every user. If you only want specific users to have these environment
variables set, then you can include them in each user's bash_profile.
