In the sqlhosts file on the client machine the two instances are
specified with the same hostname, different servername and different
service name. The sqlexecd instances on the server side are started
one for each service with the TBCONFIG and INFORMIXDIR variables
pointing to the appropriate file and directory for each instance, and
the sqlhosts file on the server specifies the same as the client
sqlhosts file. Ex: two instances, both version 5.07(for simplicity)
Instance #1 uses tbconfig.instance1 and the other tbconfig.instance2
both running on machine fred:
/etc/services:
sqlinst1 1525/tcp # Instance one service
sqlinst2 1526/tcp # Instance two service
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhosts:
inst1 tcp fred sqlinst1
inst2 tcp fred sqlinst2
Starting sqlexecd:
. informix.environment.script
TBCONFIG=tbconfig.instance1; export TBCONFIG
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlexecd sqlinst1
TBCONFIG=tbconfig.instance2; export TBCONFIG
$INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlexecd sqlinst2
Accessing serves on the client:
dbaccess database@inst1
-or-
dbaccess database@inst2
Hope this helps.
