Onstat -d
Posted in 2014
Jorge noticed rootdbs free pages in onstat -d slowly dropping (2-8 pages every few weeks) even though he had no user databases there. Respondents pointed out the system databases still living in rootdbs: sysutils grows with each onbar archive/log backup, and sysadmin grows from scheduler tasks, sensors, AUS, SQL Trace and tables like ph_alert. Suggested checks were oncheck -pe (or a per-database space query) to see what is consuming the pages, and the common recommendation to move sysadmin into its own dbspace, which one poster said solved the same problem for them.

Hi,
Every day I run onstat -d command, and notice that every 3 or 4 weeks rootdbs
has from 2 to 8 free pages less.
Why this happend?

Do you have databases that were created in the rootdb space?

No, there is no one database on rootdbs.

Well, besides of sysadmin, sysutils, sysmaster and sysusers, there is not
another database on rootdbs.

OK, those are databases... So, sysutils will get data added to it anytime
you perform an archive or log backup using onbar, so that will use pages in
rootdbs. Sysadmin will use space if you are running AUS and if you have
any sensors running or SQL Trace capture running.

sysadmin is always a good candidate for space consumption... Each time a
task is run one or more records appear in some table(s). sysutils can also
consume some space.
Follow the suggestion already provided, of running oncheck -pe (or a query
that shows space per database).
I always recommend putting sysadmin in it's own dbspace...

we had problem with sysadmin using up space so we moved it as previously suggested as follows see here http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v111/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.a dmin.doc/admin742.htm
