You shared buffer pool is extremely small:
6000 pages -> 12MB (with 2k page on SUN and HP)
This is why You have such a high I/O activity.
How much RAM do You have in Your server?

I can always try a bit more if performance still isn't good enough. Will let you know how I get on. Thanks again.
If the box is purely a db server then you could go 250K and not really worry Tugger wrote: > > Alexey Sonkin wrote: > > You shared buffer pool is extremely small: > > 6000 pages -> 12MB (with 2k page on SUN and HP) > > This is why You have such a high I/O activity. > > How much RAM do You have in Your server? > > > > > > ------------------------------------------ > > Alexey Sonkin > > > > Thanks to you both for spotting this > > The Sun has 1Gb of RAM installed, so I'll up the shared buffers to > 50,000 as suggested (that'll use up 100MB of RAM, which is fine).
