Neither. It uses native Informix net protocols (aka iNET) over TCP or whatever other host protocol you specify in the sqlhosts file for the remote server. Dbaccess is just an ESQL/C program, it connects to remote databases the same as any ESQL/C or 4GL app does. Art S.
