Informix with EMC

We're considering SRDF system from EMC with Informix server. I would like to know about the switch(?) time if the primary server is failed..( i mean, system crash, ...etc.etc.) How long it takes to fail over to the secondary server.. to continue the normal processing.. We have a lot of transactions usually.. the Disk size is about 40 gigabyte. Please give me some comments.. we have to supply continus service even if there is some faluts on DB. so the time is very important for us.. Thanks in advance.
It depends upon how you're planning to do your failover. If you're using fault-tolerant software such as HP's ServiceGuard, in which case the failover time will be the few minutes it takes for the cluster management to kick in. If you're running a server which you can dual-boot in (say) test and contingency mode, and are relying upon EMC weaving their magic to allow Server B to take over Server A's disks, it may take longer. At my last site were able to re-boot our contingency server and have it up and running within about 20 minutes - but of course we had EMC on hand at the time. Hope this helps Neil Truby Londis Stores Hampton Hill, UK Pil Ok Lim wrote in message > >We're considering SRDF system from EMC with Informix server. > >I would like to know about the switch(?) time >if the primary server is failed..( i mean, system crash, ...etc.etc.) > >How long it takes to fail over to the secondary server.. to continue >the normal processing.. > >We have a lot of transactions usually.. >the Disk size is about 40 gigabyte. > >Please give me some comments.. > >we have to supply continus service even if there is some faluts on DB. >so the time is very important for us.. > >Thanks in advance. > > >
Another alternative is to get IDS/XPO and configure a redundant co-server which will start up and take over the disks on failover. I don't know the timing. Art S.
