Informix, PHP, Apache

I've managed to get myself completely confused. Can anyone tell me what
to set and where in httpd.conf and php.ini so PHP can connect to an
Informix data base (an example would be most helpful)? I'm running
Slackware 9.1, Apache 1.3.29, PHP 4.3.4, Informix 7.30.UC5.
My onconfig System Configuration section looks like:
# System Configuration
SERVERNUM 0 # Unique id corresponding to a
Dynamic Server in stance
DBSERVERNAME fubar_a # Name of default database server
DEADLOCK_TIMEOUT 60 # Max time to wait of lock in
distributed env.
RESIDENT 0 # Forced residency flag (Yes = 1, No
= 0)
MULTIPROCESSOR 0 # 0 for single-processor, 1 for
multi-processor
NUMCPUVPS 1 # Number of user (cpu) vps
SINGLE_CPU_VP 0 # If non-zero, limit number of cpu
vps to one
NOAGE 0 # Process aging
AFF_SPROC 0 # Affinity start processor
AFF_NPROCS 0 # Affinity number of processors
My sqlhosts file looks like this:
fubar_a onipcshm fubar informixa fubar_anet seipcpip fubar informixanet
And /etc/services looks like this:
# IBM Informix Software
informixa 1625/tcp # IBM Informix 7.x engine shared
informixanet 1725/tcp # IBM Informix 7.x engine network
Informix works (both dbaccess and isql), ESQL/C works, all of that; no
problems.
PHP works fine with MySQL and anything else I want to do with it -- just
can't seem to get it to connect to an Informix data base. phpinfo() does
not show the Informix environment variables (which are set in
/etc/profile and thus are system-wide).
Sounds like php has not been installed correctly, have a look
at

[it a copy of an article by JLeffler]
There is nothing informix specific in the httpd.conf (unless you
are using the webblade)
Cheers
