User asks whether to virtualize Informix SDS clusters on VMware or RHEV, and whether mixing both platforms for cluster nodes sharing a disk is viable. Responses indicate both platforms work, but success depends on team expertise with the specific virtualization software rather than the platform itself. Mixing platforms for shared-disk cluster nodes is not recommended.

They want me to create new sds Informix clusters in virtual machines.
In your experience, which one would you choose? vmware of rhev?
They also suggested me that I put one node under vmware and the other under
rhev in case one platform falls... They need to share a disk for the sds
cluster so, perhaps I'm paranoid, I don't think that having one node in each
kind of virtualization is a good idea.
Thanks in advance. I'd appreciate very much your opinion on the issue.
VMWARE have some amazing features #justsaying

lol
Apparently iiug forum doesn't like my e-mail address this morning, so I'm
posting this directly
Hi Jacob,
I've used VMWARE, and XEN not rhev, but honestly it's a pick your poison.
The main thing you need is someone with a clue about the VM software, and how
to configure a VM that is being used as a database server. If you have someone
who really know rhev, then that is the best. If you have someone who really
really understands VMWARE, then do that. If you don't have anyone who really
understands VM's then stay away from VMWARE, because it is easier to "manage"
with little to no knowledge, and therefor easier to screw up.

Mark, that is the most useful comment you have made in years :)
