Configuring Shared memory for Suse Linux 8.2

After a great deal of struggling I have discovered that Suse Linux kernel parameters can be set in the /etc/rc.d/boot.local file. The real secret seems to be that the parameters can only be changed if the current working directory is /proc/sys/kernel My script to set SHMMAX and SHMALL follows:- ' ' this code sets the shared memory parameters ' cd /proc/sys/kernel echo 1073741824 >shmmax echo 67108864 >shmall I do hope that this will save somebody else much aggravation in future. regards Malcolm

This is the file where I am setting the appropriate parameters on my Suse 7.2 system, Kernel 2.4.18-64GB-SMP, for my IDS 7.31UD5 engine. FWIW, this is what it looks like: kernel.shmmax = 33554432 kernel.shmmin = 1 kernel.shmmni = 128 kernel.shmseg = 128 kernel.semmni = 128 kernel.semmns = 4096 kernel.semmnu = 4096 kernel.semume = 32 kernel.semmsl = 100 kernel.semmab = 4096 HTH, Richard
