Hello gurus, as documentation is not quit clear (to me ) I have a question about licensing. For the moment we have Licenses to use Informix V9.4 on Solaris 9 Sparc. Now we are considering to migrate either to Solaris 10 on an other Sparc or to Linux (x86) and upgrade to Informix V11. Any ideas of the consequences concerning licensing ? Thanks and best regards, Jacques Lapeire
Well, it will depend on whether you are currently under extended support for 9.40. Art Art S. No Art, there's NO extended support for 9.40 Jacques -----Original Message----- From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Art Kagel Sent: Monday, November 07, 2011 11:50 AM To: ids@iiug.org Subject: Re: Licensing question [25372] Well, it will depend on whether you are currently under extended support for 9.40. Jacques- If you have continued paying for support, regardless of whether you asked for extended support for your 9.x installation, you can download newer versions through Passport Advantage and install them with no additional licensing required. What you can't do is ask for 9.x patch, etc. without paying extra. If you haven't continued support, you have to call your rep and probably buy new licenses. --EEM >-----Original Message----- >From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of >Lapeire, Jacques >Sent: Monday, November 07, 2011 4:56 AM >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: RE: Licensing question [25373] > >No Art, there's NO extended support for 9.40 > >Jacques > >-----Original Message----- >From: ids-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:ids-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of >Art Kagel >Sent: Monday, November 07, 2011 11:50 AM >To: ids@iiug.org >Subject: Re: Licensing question [25372] > >Well, it will depend on whether you are currently under extended support >for 9.40. > >Art > >Art S. Actually there is if you signed up two years ago when 9.40 went out-of-support you could have gotten Extended Support, it was just a fortune and not really worth it since it still did not include bug fixes. Since you obviously did not continue with Extended Support at the time, you now have two options. Until October you could only pay for a new license for 11.50 or 11.70 and optionally paid for something called Bridge Support to cover you for down systems under your 9.40 servers on a month-to-month basis until you converted to 11.xx. Bridge Support is outrageously expensive also (and got more expensive as of September), but since you are expected to only use it for a month of two it is an option. In October IBM reintroduced a Reinstatement License. For a reasonable premium above a simple new license for 11.xx you also get up to two years of down system support for your 9.40 or 7.31 installation until you can complete testing and implementation of the upgrade. The actual license cost depends on several factors: - Which Edition: Growth or Ultimate (or Growth or Ultimate Warehouse Edition with Informix Warehouse Accelerator included) - Which license option: - For Ultimate Edition: PVU, Authorized User, or Concurrent Session - For Growth Edition: PVU, Sockets, Floating User, or Concurrent Session - PVU license costs depends on your processor, processor class, number of sockets on the system, etc. - Whether you want a 'new' license or a 'reinstatement' license (ie whether you need or want support on the existing systems prior to physically upgrading to 11.xx). Contact IBM or email me directly if you want actual pricing specific to your installation as Advanced DataTools is an IBM partner so we could source the licenses for you. Art Art S.
