dbaccess - case ?
Posted in 2016
User unable to query remote Informix database with mixed-case server name (wmsDBTC58) via dbaccess; system converts it to lowercase (wmsdbtcp58) causing failures. Setting DELIMIDENT=1 environment variable did not resolve the issue. User decided to add lowercase aliases or convert names to lowercase.

I have a legacy server that we just got in a merger ...
Servername wmsDB%CP58
when trying to select from the table within a dbaccess session remotely
...
select * from ipod@wmsDBTC58:ipod;
It fails because dbaccess is looking for wmsdbtcp58 (no uppercase)...
Obviously I can add an additional alias to be lowercase ... but just
wondered if there was a way to get the upper and lower to work ... trying
not to touch anything on the legacy server ..

IDS 12.10 ... remote 9.40

Peter,
I don't have any ANSI databases defined but I seem to recall that ANSI
databases are case sensitive. Is your source database ANSI? Just a thought.

Set and export DELIMIDENT=1 in the environment. That might do it.

I just had a recent support case, we were having some problems with some informix utilities not running. Turns out it was because our informix instance was named in mixed case, which the installer allowed, but which turns out is against the rules. Support referenced me to http://www-01.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSGU8G_12.1.0/com.ibm.adref.doc/id s_adr_0045.htm?lang=en which includes "a database server name must begin with a letter and can include any printable character, execpt the following: *Uppercase characters ...". (never knew that, have had mixed case for about 20 years). The best fix for us was to just rename our informix instances to lowercase, and correct the sqlhosts, etc. Using an alias worked but was messy with two names around, especially as you can't name the alias to just the same but in lowercase as informix says the name already exists (in its mixed form)! So, the installer should enforce the rule, or everything informix should lowercase the name all the time to be consistent and keep working. At the moment with some informix things ok with mixed case and others not it can waste a lot of time.
