Informix characterset database access

People, I currently have a set of Informix instances the version range from 7.31 to IDS 10, all the instances are running using the default character set (en_us.819). Due to the complex nature of the business, most of our instances are linked to each other via remote views. A new business required is forcing me to move two databases to UTF8 (en_us.utf8). When I try to query a table or create a view, from the non utf8 to a utf8 database I get the error " 23197: Database locale information mismatch.". Is there a way around this error, as otherwise this will create a domino effect that forces me to move everything to utf8. Regards Kenneth
Kenneth Remote query between different code sets are not supported in 7.31. It could be done in 9 and above but it was not recommended nor documented since it could lead to data corruption. Hi Kenneth, Ideally you should move all your databases to the same DB_LOCALE. Their is no conversion files for .819 to .utf8, which is why you get the error. Were your views on en_us.ut8, and the source database was ja_jp.utf8 you would have no problem. The error is to protect you from accidentally corrupting one or more databases. That said there may exist a means to work around the issue. I would suggest that you open a PMR to see if there is any means short of converting all databases to .utf8 -Mark ________________________________ From: KENNETH PENZA <kenneth.penza@gov.mt> To: ids@iiug.org Sent: Monday, May 4, 2009 8:30:31 AM Subject: Informix characterset database access [15663] People, I currently have a set of Informix instances the version range from 7.31 to IDS 10, all the instances are running using the default character set (en_us.819).
