Hi, I'm running an Informix Dynamic Server 7.3. under HP-UX-10.20. What I would like now to do is: - setting up a Sun Solaris work station as a client. What I already did: - I downloaded the Client SDK 2.3 for Sun Solaris The problem: - the application which uses the client displays the message "can't establish connection to server" Environment variable INFORMIXDIR has already been set. The sqlhosts file and the services I need exist. I configured a HPUX work station as client using ICONNECt it works well. Do I need ICONNECT for Sun Solaris, too (an employee of Informix told us to use CSDK instead)? How to setup the client using CSDK? Please send a copy of your answer to my attention, too regards Wolfgang -- Wolfgang Schlueschen, mailto:Wolfgang.Schlueschen@hamburg.sc.philips.com
You need to set the INFORMIXSERVER environment variable UNLESS your application uses the 'CONNECT TO "@servername"' syntax to connect to the server. The DATABASE statement relies on a default server which is the value of INFORMIXSERVER. Art S. My experience is that INFORMIXSERVER has to be set regardless, and I think you run into problems if it does not point at a valid (up) instance. Anybody want to offer contradictory experience? I'm not positive on this. > Wolfgang Schlueschen wrote: > > I'm running an Informix Dynamic Server 7.3. under HP-UX-10.20. > > > > What I would like now to do is: > > - setting up a Sun Solaris work station as a client. > > > > What I already did: > > - I downloaded the Client SDK 2.3 for Sun Solaris > > > > The problem: > > - the application which uses the client displays the message > > "can't establish connection to server" > > > > Environment variable INFORMIXDIR has already been set. CSDK includes all of I-Connect, so you don't need both. The setup for the connections is the same on both machines. Make sure you're using the same service names *and* numbers on both machines. Also, the same server names. -- Jonathan Leffler (jleffler@informix.com, jleffler@earthlink.net) Guardian of DBD::Informix v0.60 -- see http://www.perl.com/CPAN #include <disclaimer.h>
