IIUG Survey #2 -- Windows NT Engines
Posted in 1996
As part of our continuing effort to improve communications between Informix
and its customers, the IIUG is supporting the following user survey. This
survey, and the other survey on Unix-based OnLine DSA, is the first of what we
hope will be an continual process of providing you the opportunity to
express your opinions to those who shape Informix products and services.
Future surveys will take a number of electronic and hard-copy forms in order
to reach the broadest possible number of users.
This particular survey was prepared by, and for, the Informix product
development team to help make decisions on the future direction of the product
line. Please take a few minutes to complete the questions and return your
answers via e-mail or fax as described at the top of the survey. We will
provide a summary of responses after they have been tabulated.
Thank you

Survey for customers running Informix databases on Windows NT - 10/96
Responses should be emailed to turh@informix.com or
FAX to Helene Tur at 415-926-1157
With a future release of the Windows NT Server, Informix plans to provide a
central console for managing single and multiple servers. As we look at the
current single system tools and define what tools the new central console will
include, we want to make sure we understand which of the current performance
tools are most used and, perhaps, what is missing that would make it easier
to manage the performance of your systems.
1. Windows NT Database Version [e.g.: Informix-SE vx.x, OnLine Workgroup v7.12]:
2. Number of systems running Windows NT Informix database products:
3. Are you also running the UNIX version of the database on any systems?
4. Major types of applications the database supports:
5. What are the components of the database that you monitor and investigate
most frequently when managing the performance of the system? [e.g. CPU usage]
6. What Informix tools do you find most useful? What do you use them for?
[tool examples: onstat, onlog, oncheck, ICC tools]
7. What other Microsoft or 3rd party tools are you using to manage and/or
monitor performance of your Informix database today? What do you use them
for? [tool example: PerfMon]
8. If you could have one or two new tools, or expansions of existing tools,
what would those tools do that you cannot do today?
9. As part of the new multiserver command center, we believe we may need to
support the creation and deployment of scripts. We, therefore, need to
better understand your use of scripts. Please answer these questions if you
are using scripts today.
What are the scripts designed to do?
Who creates them?
Do the scripts call other applications? What languages are being used?
How long do they run?
10. There is a lot of press recently around the use of Web tools and many of
our customers are using these tools as part of their marketing efforts and
for internal document distribution. There has also been some discussion of
using Web tools as part of the database administration function. Do you see
a use for Web based tools for database administration? And if so, how and
to do what?
11. What database administration and monitoring tasks do you sometimes do
from home or when you are traveling? What do you wish you were able to do?
12. What platform do you use to perform your database administration
functions at work?
13. What platforms do you use for database administration functions at home
and how do you connect to your work system when home or traveling? [e.g.
Telnet, Web, ISDN]
14. Is there anything else you would like to tell us regarding any of the
topics above, or any other Informix database related issue?
