SELECT TabName FROM SysTables WHERE Tabid = 1;
If this returns data, the database is not MODE ANSI (because you have to
specify 'informix'.SysTables to access the catalogue in a MODE ANSI
database). If it generates an error, the database is MODE ANSI.
Additionally, in 4GL (or ESQL/C), when you open a database, various warning
flags are set to indicate whether the database is OnLine or SE, whether it
has transactions or not, and whether it is MODE ANSI or not. Look up
sqlca.sqlwarn in the manuals. You can test these in MAIN (or a function)
before you do any other database operations if you use the declarative
(non-procedural) DATABASE statement in your 4GL programs.
