Concurrent access to INFORMIX and ORACLE?
Posted in 1993
Hi Netters, can anybody tell me whether it is possible to access an Informix and an Oracle database out of the same program? I have the problem that an Informix database on another UNIX computer, which I have been accessing regularly via Informix-NET, is now being migrated to a Mac server running Oracle. I still have to access the data, however, and link them with data I have in a local Informix database. Until now, I've been switching back and forth between local and remote databases with the "CLOSE DATABASE" and "DATABASE" statements, writing the results of queries into temporary tables which I could then use with both databases. This was done in an Informix-4GL program. What I would like to do now is write a C-Program that uses both the Informix and Oracle embedded SQL and access the Oracle database on the Mac via Oracle's SQL*Net. Question is: Can both Informix's and Oracles's embedded SQL be used in the same program? Could there be conflicts between functions that have the same name in both libraries? Is there a trick with which I can use both in the same program? I'd hate to have to unload Oracle's data to a file, then load that file into Informix, process the data, then unload again... (Cycle through that about 5 times). Answer by e-mail preferred, I'll summarize to the net.
