I don't have anything nearly as specific as Kernoal, however, I do remember raising those same parameters on v9x and AIX 5.2. I too was leery of just changing things, upon tech supports request and without really understanding and testing the results. The "error" disappeared after the change though. That nothing. We use something like 600000 on Linux. Two Oracle benchmarks I saw on Linux used max number of outstanding requests as 1 million and 5 million!
