I'm trying to configure the 'learning environment' setup described
in Chapter 3 of the Informix-OnLine Dynamic Server Administrator's
Guide, Volume 1. The Informix version I am using is 6.00.UE2 and
the OS is SCO/Unix 3.2.4. I'm logged into UNIX as 'informix'.
Initially, I am using a non-networked setup i.e. shared memory and
IPC communication. I believe that I've followed all the instructions
in the manual correctly; however, 'onmonitor' consistently displays
the following message on the status line
** WARNING: Network Down **--Quiescent--- Press CTRL-W for Help. ----
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The response times in 'onmonitor' are also suspect! For example,
10 seconds after selecting 'Dbspaces' before the next menu is
displayed and the same time delay after selecting 'Exit' from the
Dbspaces menu.
Other strange messages appear in the log file; for example,
17:55:04 INFORMIX-OnLine Initialized -- Complete Disk Initialized
17:55:05 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds
17:55:05 Quiescent Mode
17:55:08 listener-thread: err = -951: User informix is not known onthe database server.
Despite all this, I can happily create databases and tables AND
load data into the tables, using Informix-SQL 6.00.UE2. This
leads me to believe that everything is OK in the database setup;
what else can I have done wrong?
