Re: HELP! oninit -i fails...

OK, when you changed the names, you were just a little premature. You do
have to change the ROOTPATH, but because you are initializing this new
(test) instance, the engine will not know of any other dbspaces. You
must first get the instance up and running with just the rootdbs active,
then you can add the other dbspaces and move the logs. That reminds me,
you may want to change the log parameters (LOGFILES, LOGSIZE, and LOGSMAX
for logical logs, PHYSDBS and PHYSFILE for physical log) because you have
to be able to fit everything into the rootdbs. Then you can create your
tempdbs and physdbs using onmonitor or onspaces, then use onparams to
move the physical log. You had to do those in your production instance,
and you have to do these steps for each new instance.

Hi...
First off, new to Informix and medium UNIX.
Machine: HP-9000
We have a version of Informix INstalled (7.1) and it runs fine.
We want to put up a test version of 7.22 UC2. In doing this, we
did a onmode -ky of our existing system.
The target of the ROOTPATH is a cooked file. The onconfig used
in the working system was copied to the new /etec directory and
names were changed. rootdbs, tempdbs and physdbs were touched
in the target directory.
We then did a oninit -i and get the following in the log:
Fri Aug 22 11:23:55 1997
11:23:55 Event alarms enabled. ALARMPROG =
'/db1/informix/etc/log_full.sh'
11:23:56 DR: DRAUTO is 0 (Off)
11:26:49 INFORMIX-OnLine Initialized -- Complete Disk Initialized.
11:26:49 Warning: Invalid dbspace 'tempdbs' listed in DBSPACETEMP.
11:26:49 Checkpoint Completed: duration was 0 seconds.
11:26:49 DBspace(physdbs) for Physical Log File not found.
11:26:49 INFORMIX-OnLine Stopped.
11:26:49 mt_shm_remove: WARNING: may not have removed all/correctsegments
I haven't a clue what to do.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Joe
