Re: Informix Triggers

Like Jason mentioned, I thought Informix 5 did support them, however, if the version you are using really doesn't I would suggest implementing your trigger functionality into a function call. [In fact, I am certain version 5 does support them, now that I think about it.] This may be easier said than done, as it basically requires you to call an INSERT, DELETE, or UPDATE function in place of every insert, delete, or update you may have in your code, but I guess it depends on how bad you think you need it. Also, the performance costs of such a move may affect whether or not you want to do it. If you've got a table with alot of columns in it, passing a structure might be costly, especially if it's done in 4GL. If you're already running without triggers, and plan to upgrade within 6-12 months, I'd probably take what I suspect Informix sales people would recommend....upgrade ASAP, and implement them the same way.....OR re-evaluate your "need" for triggers...maybe you don't need them, or maybe there is a Q&D fix to whatever problem makes you think you need them all of a sudden.
