I don't agree with this at all, for the following reasons: 1) We routinely re-boot our servers each Sunday. I like playing with my kids on Sundays, not dialing in to start up OnLine. 2) We have other, non-Informix, applications on the server. If a re-boot is required to fix a problem on one of these, I don't want to be called at 2 a.m. to start the database server! 3) OnLine has sophisticated and resilient fast recovery functionality for coping with bringing a database server up following an unexpected fault, so why not take advantage of it? Givcen point 3, I'd argue that you'd almost be better off having a "nice" start-up script and not bother with the shutdown one! I've never had problems with Online starting up automatically ... except of course when it hasn't! Regards Neil
