Are there left, right, and full outer join in INFORMIX? How can i use that?
I don't know what "left", "right" and "full" are, but I know what an
outer join is, and you can do it in Informix like :-
<paste from help screen in dbaccess>
SELECT [ALL | DISTINCT | UNIQUE] select-list
FROM [OUTER] table-name [table-alias] [,...]
[WHERE condition]
[GROUP BY column-list] [HAVING condition]
[ORDER BY column-name [ASC | DESC],...]
[INTO TEMP table-name]
<end paste>
e.g.
SELECT *
FROM orders, OUTER items
WHERE orders.order_num = items.order_num

As Brett Randall pointed out, Informix has always had its own implementation ofouter joins, dating back to the days of Informix 3.30, prior to the first SQL databases. However, I suspect you are asking for the ISO/ANSI SQL-92 style outer joins, and they are only supported in the latest 7.3x and 9.2x database servers. Where they are supported, they follow the standard closely. -- Yours, Jonathan Leffler (Jonathan.Leffler@Informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix v1.00.PC1 -- http://www.perl.com/CPAN "I don't suffer from insanity; I enjoy every minute of it!"
